Bagasse

Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcane is crushed to extract its juice and is a by product generated in the process of manufacture of sugar. The composition of bagasse varies based on the variety of sugarcane, maturity of cane, method of harvesting and the efficiency of the sugar mill. Bagasse is usually used as a combustible in furnaces to produce steam, which in turn is used to generate power. It is also used as a raw material for production of paper. It can either be sold or be captively consumed for generation of steam. It is currently used as a bio-fuel and in the manufacture of pulp and paper products and building materials.
